If you have heavy clay or wet soil this is a great way of growing them early in the season without the risk of them rotting in the ground. Particularly if we have a wet spring. Growing them in gutters also helps avoid mice stealing your seed if you sow them directly in the soil outside. Hopefully I have no mice in my conservatory / lounge.
